LEADERSHIP RETREAT

  Leading from within
   A retreat for practitioners facilitating development;

   6th – 9th October 2009

Aim of the retreat

As facilitators working in development we are called on to promote collective learning and organizational effectiveness while working largely alone. The aim of this retreat is to create a space for practitioners to come together, to reflect on and critique their work, to practice collective learning; and to (re-)discover their own inner leadership skills.

Why leading from within?

...if we ignore the need to change ourselves it is unlikely that we will be able to stimulate change in others (Learning for Transformation 2001) Leadership is not only held in position and authority. Indeed leadership can be expressed no matter where you are in an organisation. Leadership is an action that we exercise through process and taking responsibility for our actions. Leadership is about creating the spaces for others to learn and grow. To be effective in our interactions with others, we need to know ourselves (who we are and how our mindset or way of looking at the world shapes our interactions). One way to achieve this is to find ways to connect our heads (our intellect), our hearts and our hands (our actions).

Who might apply:

Anyone who is facilitating development processes and exercising leadership can apply. Note Khmer will be the primary language of the retreat.

  Approach

Leading from within begins with simple ‘who am I stories’ before moving on to looking at how we interact with each other and the world. The workshop draws on various facilitation techniques as well as yoga, reflective practice and journaling to explore our development practice.
